Finally, A Motto for the Year

My motto for 2006 was "Be real."

I forgot what my motto for 2007 was.

And I hadn't picked a motto for 2008, but as I was researching quotes last night, I stumbled upon one:

"Don't compromise yourself. It's all you've got." ~Janis Joplin

I love that. I've decided to be more of myself this year.

So how are your goals, resolutions, or whatever going this year? And do you have a motto for this year?

19 bonus scribbles:

Goal? To finish the book.
If I had one, it would be "keep trying," or "keep on, keeping on," I guess.

Usually I go with something like, "Never, never, never give up." or "A man is not a sucess because he has never failed, but because failure had never stopped him."
But I think I need something with more of a push. Maybe, "Damn the torpedos! Full speed ahead!"

Hmmm . . . . You know I had a LONG list of resolutions. I'm running at 50%, I think.

But I am increasingly embracing "If you don't like your life, only you have the power to change it." There are some significant things "not working" in my life right now. Lack of sleep and Demon Baby, not getting enough work done because of items #1 and 2, not making time to exercise, not making time for ME, and so on. So . . . I really need to shift my thinking/scheduling . . . make some changes.

My goal is to keep putting one foot in front of the other, no matter how slowly I go--never go backwards and never stand still.

Oh, and I tagged you for the "Six Unremarkable Things" meme. Check my blog for the rules.

Ditto bernita, but I'm still not writing a whole lot.

I think I sort of keep Eleanor Roosevelt's words in mind as a personal motto. Not that I always think about it, but isn't it true? "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

StarvingWriteNow 5/17/2008 11:35:00 AM

I'm not sure if I made one up or not. I think, all things considered, it should be something like "The end of the road isn't the end of the world."

My motto is and always will be - Lettuce is the devil.

LaDonna 5/17/2008 09:46:00 PM

Hey Spy, love your motto and your goal this year. There's some good comments here. This year I've noticed, my focus is inward too. I'm all about being real. If I'm true to that, it's all good. Life is loud sometimes, and I love the quiet moments more. When I was younger, I didn't acknowledge them as much. To live is to learn, 'eh?

This has absolutely been my worst year for keeping my New Year's Resolutions. I don't know what my problem is. Too much going on? Whatever. It's quite disheartening.

Bernita, I love "Keep on, keeping on." I do a lot of that. "One foot in front of the other," I guess. The turtle wins the race, right? :-)

spyscribbler 5/18/2008 08:09:00 AM

Aimless, I LOVE "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!"

That's awesome. I wish my alarm clock said that!

Erica, 50% is really good. When you think about it, that's a lot of change. I need to get my health in order, definitely. Eating and exercise.

spyscribbler 5/18/2008 08:12:00 AM

Oh cool, Avery! Thanks! Yours is close to another of my favorite sayings, which is "Never look back."

Writtenwyrdd, I think she must have been an amazing lady. I've barely written in the last three weeks, but I'm happy I get to write tomorrow, finally! Yay!

spyscribbler 5/18/2008 08:14:00 AM

Writenow, you are not at the end of the road! Well, maybe you were, but you turned onto a new street. Lots of exciting things down that street, I hope!

spyscribbler 5/18/2008 08:15:00 AM

LaDonna, I crave the quiet moments. I can tell I haven't written in a couple weeks, because my brain won't. shut. up. I need some quiet moments.

spyscribbler 5/18/2008 08:23:00 AM

Barrie, me, too. I don't remember some of them, but the two biggest ones I haven't done yet. Maybe it's time. I gotta get exercising and eating veggies!

It's still only May!

My goal for this year was to get the #$^ out of Mexico, but it doesn't look like that'll be happening. I like the idea of keep on keeping on, or whatever that was.

I decided I accomplished too much in 2007 and deserved a break this year, so no resolutions. ;)
