For Old Time's Sake: Updated with Results!

Since I'm so nervous I haven't been able to get any writing done in two days, I thought I'd do one last Palin post. She said this to Peter Hamby about her regrets of the campaign (bold mine):

Asked if she had any regrets about the campaign, Palin bemoaned “the state of journalism today.”

“The blogosphere, the two-, three-hour news cycles, where just too much is reported based on gossip and innuendo and things taken out of context,” she explained, adding that she’d like to help improve the profession because she has “great respect for the world of journalism.”

Doesn't that just make you shiver with foreboding? The thought of someone who wants to ban books improving the profession of journalism?

It brings to mind an expression I used when I was young: Gag me with a Spoon!

And I think the article, Poll problems and poll problem spin exemplifies the difference between the two candidates:

The Obama campaign's message today: Everything's going fine.

The McCain campaign's message: It's a mess.

I am so proud of the US for its record turnout today.

I keep refreshing the news sites. I'm a nervous wreck.

How are you doing? Just an hour or so! I'm at Borders. I'd like to go to a bar or something, get a drink, but DH can't eat or drink because of dental surgery stuff. Poor guy.

I can't wait until the results start coming in!

Update: They're coming in! Lookee! I got a widget that reports them!

95 bonus scribbles:

marciacolette 11/04/2008 06:25:00 PM

I'm not watching any of the results, if I can help it. I'd rather wake up tomorrow and have it feel like Christmas Day...or the wraiths of hell. But, I've got my hopes on that early Christmas. ;-)

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 06:26:00 PM

Wow, Marcia! Wow! That's amazing to me. I could never bear the wait. Wow!

I'm hoping for an early Christmas, too!

Rick 11/04/2008 06:28:00 PM

I've never paid too much attention to politicians, just the American people. Politicians are just rock stars with guns.

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 06:30:00 PM

Wow, Rick! That statement is particularly apt for Bush, isn't it?

I'm hoping the American people speak loud and clear for change, today.

AnswerGirl 11/04/2008 06:44:00 PM

Ugh, I too have not been able to get any work done today! I am wound so tight I feel like I could cry or throw up or break something, or maybe do all three.

Fifteen minutes until Virginia polls close ... my son is a field organizer for Obama in northern VA and if Virginia goes Obama, so goes the nation.

Clair

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 06:48:00 PM

Oh, Clair, it's unbearable! I totally understand. That is so cool about your son.

I've been breaking into tears for most of the day. I will cry and throw plates against the wall if Ohio does not go to Obama.

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 06:50:00 PM

I forced myself to turn everything off this afternoon and wrote over 2000 words. I also teared up just looking at the pictures of people waiting patiently in line.

EEkK!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 06:53:00 PM

LOL, Melanie! I saw that on Rockin' Writers and was so proud of you. I am SO not that good. I meant to do that today. I really have to get back into the swing of things. Maybe I'll get up at 4am and write, tomorrow.

Robin 11/04/2008 06:56:00 PM

If Obama doesn't win I hereby vow to eat my own sigmoid colon.

I'm only doing that because I feel very confident. I really think it's going to be OK.

I haven't cried once today. I only vomited twice, and that's because I ate too much left over Halloween candy.

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 06:58:00 PM

Robin, not TWO seconds ago I debated making a proclamation like that in my facebook status, but I chickened out.

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 06:59:00 PM

Oh, I have at least two friends going to the rally in Chicago. I'm so jealous!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 07:01:00 PM

LOL, Robin! I adore your ability to make me laugh when I'm all emo. You have a gift for that. Your patients (and friends!) are very lucky!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 07:01:00 PM

Melanie, I've said I would move to Canada. Would I really? I don't know. It might take me a couple years, but it would sure be tempting.

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 07:02:00 PM

Ohmigosh! Ohmigosh! Melanie, I am SO jealous! You must be so jealous! How fun! I wanna go!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 07:07:00 PM

We might move to Canada anyway, so we can make it a group thing. But let's not think about that right now.

Yes, I'm SO jealous. I'm sure there's even more going but they just didn't feel the urge to share with me. :)

Rick 11/04/2008 07:13:00 PM

Spy, you are so wicked.

mom2brie,  11/04/2008 07:20:00 PM

I know it's waaaay early, but the numbers in Virginia and Florida are not looking good :( I don't know. :(

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 07:27:00 PM

Oh, Melanie, I am in FULL-BLOWN PANIC right now!!!!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 07:27:00 PM

LOL, Rick! You said it! :-)

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 07:28:00 PM

Mom2Brie, are you off work yet? When do you get off? I am so panicking. I'm a nervous wreck. I'm in tears. If Obama does not win this, I am going to campaign for him EVERY DAY, starting tomorrow.

Robin 11/04/2008 07:35:00 PM

You guys crack me up. I'm watching NBC news, and there is some excellent election coverage going on. For example, they just reported that the percentages in Michigan for McCain/Obama are 0%/0%. Then they added, "It's too early to tell".

Is it just me, or is that not newsworthy?

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 07:36:00 PM

Robin, some people can't figure that out on their own...

I don't know, they're making me crazy!

Robin 11/04/2008 07:51:00 PM

Melanie, they also showed the florescent green room where the reporter stands as they flash pictures behind her. It was so bright! The poor woman has to stand amidst that color all night long. I think she should get a pay raise.

Spy, I just heard the words "It's going to be a rout," referring to Obama winning.

I once met George Stephanapoulos on the street in New York, and I shook his hand and said "I love your work," because I thought he was Martin Short.

mom2brie,  11/04/2008 07:52:00 PM

I'm still working - I mean, checking the websites - I mean working. I'm here until 8:15. Well, at least the FL numbers are looking better. McCain just got SC - but no surprise there!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 08:01:00 PM

CNN just called half the east coast states. 77 - 34 oin favor of Obama.

It's Only Me 11/04/2008 08:01:00 PM

I'm honestly considering going to bed, this is a stress I do not need. But I can't pull myself away. I think me and the television are going to pull an all nighter.

I love hearing Palin talk about all this stuff she's going to do once elected as VP...run the Sentate! Change Journalism! Illusions of grandeur, much?

I can see her now, sitting in her office, tapping her manicured nails on her desktop, pleading, "Put me in, Coach, puh-leeeeeeeeeeeze!"

No, stike that, I DON'T want to see that.

Have I mentioned my entire face has broken out and I've been having trouble breathing for two days?

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:16:00 PM

Robin, 0-0!! You're kidding! Oh no! ROFLMAO!

I had to go to the store and drive home. I was way too emotional for the Borders Cafe. I'm sitting in front of CNN now, constantly refreshing MSN.

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:17:00 PM

Mom2Brie, but what about Virginia?? No worries. Demon Baby was hard at work in Virginia. No one can defeat Demon Baby!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:18:00 PM

Oh, Melanie, that's wonderful! DH insisted we go to the store. THE STORE! AT A TIME LIKE THIS!

But now I'm home in front of the TV.

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:19:00 PM

It's Only Me, that image TOTALLY freaks me out! I'm a nervous wreck. DH keeps laughing at me but I'm too nervous to laugh.

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 08:20:00 PM

God, CNN just showed live footage from the Chicago rally. I raced to the tv to watch for my friends and burst into tears.

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:21:00 PM

Melanie, TOTALLY! Didn't it look fun? I was watching the same thing, had just gotten home, and had the exact same reaction.

Edie 11/04/2008 08:24:00 PM

I haven't been obsessing over it -- until now. Thanks a lot, Spy. lol

I'm positive Obama is going to win. It's going to be just fine. :)

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:24:00 PM

What are you watching, Robin? I want to go to that channel!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:25:00 PM

Edie? Really? Okay, I'm starting to calm down. Okay, not really. I'm pretending I'm calming down.

Either way, I'm going to weep tonight.

Stephen Parrish 11/04/2008 08:30:00 PM

Hi Spy. I'm watching with you. CNN hasn't called Pennsylvania yet, but when it does I'll start to relax.

Hang in there!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:34:00 PM

Stephen, I'll start to relax when they call Ohio! And Pennsylvania.

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 08:36:00 PM

CBS called Pennsylvania for Obama!

Zoe Winters 11/04/2008 08:37:00 PM

Spy,

Calm down. It's going to be fine. I swear I must be really really weird, because this is the first election in a long time where I haven't really cared one way or the other. Not sure what that says about me, maybe bad things, but yeah.

I am curious about who's going to win though. But I think probably we won't know tomorrow. The last few elections the trend has been toward contesting and recounts.

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:37:00 PM

Okay, Melanie, I'm switching to CBS!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 08:40:00 PM

Spy, CNN just called PN too 65-34.

Stephen Parrish 11/04/2008 08:40:00 PM

CNN just called PA for Obama!

Look at the Florida numbers!

Yippee!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:40:00 PM

How can they call it with 0% reporting? That's why I have trouble, LOL!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:41:00 PM

Oh, WOW! Melanie, that's great! Pennsylvania and Florida... ohmigosh, I'm still a weepy mess, even though I'm feeling better!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 08:47:00 PM

I'm getting carpal tunnel and whiplash (tv is off to the side.)

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:47:00 PM

ROFLMAO! I'm in front of the TV, at least until my battery runs down!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 08:58:00 PM

I apparently just missed seeing one of my friends at the rally. Another friend spotted her!

Stephen Parrish 11/04/2008 08:58:00 PM

Melanie's right. Exit polls. But CNN won't call it unless they're ABSOLUTELY sure. Which is why we can say our boy has PA.

Senator Elizabeth "Anyone who runs against me is an atheist" Dole just got toppled. This is starting to be fun.

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 08:59:00 PM

You're kidding, Melanie! That is SO cool. So cool!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 09:01:00 PM

LOL! Oh, YES! Oh wow, okay, I'm relaxing. I feel a grin coming on. I wish I could be partying in Chicago!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 09:03:00 PM

All my Chicago friends who no longer live there are moping together on facebook, lol.

I just watched CNN's EV tally flip - 174 to 49 (and the announcer said flip as I typed it, weird).

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 09:07:00 PM

Aw, I bet, Melanie! I've been on twitter, LOL.

Oh, man, I'm still tense. I will be SO proud if we elect Obama.

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 09:12:00 PM

http://isobamapresidentyet.com/

Robin 11/04/2008 09:17:00 PM

Spy, it was NBC. Now we're watching "Californication" On Demand. It's a rout! You should pop the champagne cork with DH!

I'm just happy PA isn't really full of a bunch of crazy racists. My parents thought Obama's assessment of Western PA was hilarious and totally correct. I agreed!

What a nice night!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 09:18:00 PM

LOL, Melanie! Me, too. I'm definitely exhausted. I'm also on my third glass of wine. I'm so nervous, I'm drinking faster than I ever do! (I never drink a glass of wine, LOL.)

I love that site! That's hilarious!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 09:19:00 PM

Robin, maybe it was reverse psychology! A brilliant move by that senator, LOL!

I'm getting blackberry wine happy, LOL!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 09:20:00 PM

Rumors are swirling that Ohio is going to Obama...

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 09:23:00 PM

I am SO happy, Melanie! I hope, I hope, I hope! And look how the gap is closing in Virginia!

Go Demon Baby!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 09:26:00 PM

Pizza's here. I'll be back in a bit.

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 09:37:00 PM

Ohio!! OHIO!!! We got OHIO!!! I am SO PROUD OF US!!!! YAY!!

Robin 11/04/2008 09:38:00 PM

Guys, Obama is carrying New Mexico, which went for Bush last time. So much for the rumor that New Mexico is where stupid racist Pennsylvanians go to retire. (I'm a Pennsylvanian. I can say this horrible stuff.)

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 09:40:00 PM

ROFLMAO, Robin! I missed that! I'm REALLY dancing, now! Ohio and New Mexico!!!

What a night. What a night!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 09:51:00 PM

AND, the CNN guy couldn't find a way on the magic wall for McCain to get enough electoral votes.

Squeeeeee!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 09:54:00 PM

Melanie, I'm squeeing with you! I saw that! My butterflies are gone. I'm actually relaxed. I'm about to cry with happiness, but I'm holding it until Obama's speech and McCain's concession speech.

Stephen Parrish 11/04/2008 09:56:00 PM

AND, the CNN guy couldn't find a way on the magic wall for McCain to get enough electoral votes.

He tried really, really hard. This race is over.

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 09:57:00 PM

And he did it without laughing. Well, almost.

I'm about to exhale...

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 09:57:00 PM

He did. This is true, Stephen. I am so relieved, so relieved. Now how many days before Bush is GONE FOREVER?

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 09:58:00 PM

Oh, Melanie! After I read your comment, I just gave my first real chuckle tonight.

Whew. That was a rocky start!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 10:01:00 PM

Obama pulled ahead in Virginia! Now I just want to CREAM McCain.

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 10:05:00 PM

A McCain aide was quoted as saying "we need a miracle". I'M SO EXCITED!!!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 10:07:00 PM

Completely unrelated, check out this post: http://blogs.moneycentral.msn.com/topstocks/archive/2008/11/03/oprah-kindles-the-holiday-fire-for-amazon.aspx

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 10:13:00 PM

Melanie, I'm slipping into a happy, goofy grin.

Robin, I forgot to tell you: I have a huge crush on George Stephanopolous, have for a long time. :-)

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 10:15:00 PM

Isn't that great, Melanie? I'm a little upset at Amazon for only giving the publisher and/or author 35% of the sale price. That's abysmally low. I've been buying my latest books on Mobipocket.

I still LOVE my Kindle, though. :-)

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 10:17:00 PM

I heard a rumor Arizona is tipping towards Obama. I don't know if I believe it.

I meant to LOL at Robin's George story too!

mom2brie,  11/04/2008 10:25:00 PM

YEAH OHIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My tired feet are worth it (I canvassed Fri - Mon).

I'm actually feeling positive now!!!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 10:28:00 PM

I know, Mom2Brie, you worked SO hard! And it was worth it, so worth it! I'm going to try to find a Toastmaster's and join, so I'm confident enough about my speaking abilities to canvass four years from now.

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 10:35:00 PM

My wrist hurts. If I want to write tomorrow, I think I need to get off the computer.

At least until the speeches. :D

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 10:37:00 PM

LOL, I think I'm taking a nap. At least until the speeches. DH wants to clean tomorrow, and I need to write!

Melanie Avila 11/04/2008 10:43:00 PM

Ok, I'll try to pull myself away...

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 10:45:00 PM

LOL, I said that, and I'm still flipping through the channels, LOL!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 10:47:00 PM

I'm cracking up at the CNN holograms too much to go to bed! HAH!

Holograms! Who woulda thunk it?!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 11:03:00 PM

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mom2brie,  11/04/2008 11:04:00 PM

HE DID IT!!!!!!!

I am sooo happy and relieved. Mainly, I am sooo glad for Brie - I'm tearing up because I so strongly feel that at last the US will be moving in the right direction for her. My baby girl can be proud of her country tonight, just like I am :)

Hugs spy - I love you, and you might not have canvassed, but I'm convinced that your blog made a difference - be proud of that! :)

Edie 11/04/2008 11:06:00 PM

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy day!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 11:09:00 PM

BIG HUGS ALL AROUND!!!

I've got tears running down my face.

THIS IS AWESOME!

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 11:11:00 PM

Mom2Brie, Brie can be proud of her MOM today! You can always tell her that she WAS a part of this day. I bet that beautiful little face helped.

Not to mention all the canvassing you did!

The only reason i haven't called you is because I'm all choked up, LOL!

mom2brie,  11/04/2008 11:21:00 PM

:) Hugs to everyone :)

McCain is talking now - he's giving a fine speech - good for him.

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 11:55:00 PM

Mom2Brie, I think it's the best thing McCain has done this whole campaign.

spyscribbler 11/04/2008 11:57:00 PM

Oh man, he's just walking onstage and I'm already bawling again.
